ALDO CICCOLINI

This disc gives you a chance to return to pieces you sometimes recorded a

very long time ago. Your first ever studio performances of Chopin, back in

1957, were the Three Waltzes Op. 34. You’ve played all the Chopin waltzes

regularly; why did you choose the Waltz in A minor op.34 no.2 here?

A.C.

: A very melancholy piece. I chose it because it’s the first waltz I ever played in

my life. When I was a child, my first teacher, MariaVigliarolo d’Ovidio – awonderful

teacher – taughtme this piece. It’s a deeply touchingmemory for me.What’smore,

the same piece was on the programme of the recital I gave at the age of eight for

the Press Union inNaples. It was a lovely hall, and I had a tough programme to play.
