Raphaël Jouan
Raphaël Jouan
Born in 1993, cellist Raphaël Jouan is characterized by his eclecticism and curiosity. He explores with equal joy and passion the worlds of chamber music, grand concertos, improvisation, and can be found performing on prestigious stages and festivals as well as in intimate, unconventional settings and jazz clubs.
He is invited to perform in venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris, the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, the Sunset-Sunside, the Wigmore Hall…, on the airwaves of France Musique, Arte Concert, Medici.tv, and as part of numerous festivals in France and internationally (les Folles Journées, La Belle Saison, the Festival d’Uzeste, the Festival Pablo Casals…). He is an artist-in-residence at the Cité musicale-Metz.
Passionate about chamber music, a fundamental activity in his musical life, he founded the Trio Hélios in 2014, which has won numerous international competitions.
Raphaël studied at the Metz Conservatory with Jean Adolphe, then at the Boulogne Billancourt Conservatory with Xavier Gagnepain. He subsequently entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the class of Michel Strauss and Guillaume Paoletti. During the 2017/2018 season, he was selected for Gautier Capuçon’s Excellence Class at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. He then pursued further study at the UdK in Berlin with Danjulo Ishizaka.
For this album, Raphaël plays on an exceptional cello by Matteo Goffriller (Venice, 1700-1710), which formerly belonged to Antônio Meneses, and a Lamy Fils bow (1930), graciously provided to him by CANIMEX INC., from Drummondville (Quebec), Canada.
