Description
The Cantique de Moÿse by Étienne Moulinié (1599–1676) is a fascinating and still
somewhat mysterious work from the early 17th century. Antoine Godeau, Bishop of Grasse
and Vence, was renowned in his time for having paraphrased the 150 Psalms of David into
melodies that were “pleasant and easy.” Moulinié chose to set these Paraphrases
to a more learned, concertante style of music.
