Olivier Messiaen was, in fact, deeply influenced by the richness of his playing and the way he made chords resonate, although this is less noticeable in Navarra than in Iberia, for example, where the pianistic challenges are even more impressive! Séverac and Mompou are, admittedly, less ambitious in technical terms, yet both display a certain eccentricity that makes them distinctive and endearing. Like Satie, they maintained a genuine detachment from convention, and their reputations have, in consequence, diminished as a result. For this reason, their music, fascinating though it is, remains, even today, relatively little known.
