Each of them has its own specific universe, starting with Interlude no.4 by the Danish jazz trumpeter Allan Botschinsky. Listening to you, it’s almost as if one can hear the percussion beat, and the pulse of the double bass on the tuba. Thomas Leleu: The tuba plays the walking bass1, which also means you don’t need a drum kit to maintain the pulse. We’re very attached to this piece because we used to listen to it in our parents’ car as children, and we have fond memories of it. For me, in any case, it was one of the first jazz pieces I heard. I’d also like to point out that we don’t just play these pieces because they’re attractive, but also because they tell a story. What’s more, Botschinsky’s Interlude gives each of us two big solos, and we like to vary the tempi when we play it in concert. 1 A bass line with one note per beat, used to create a repeated melodic motif.
