59 LOUIS THIRY André Isoir was well known for his extraordinary interpretations of Baroquemusic andhis confirmed and confident taste for spontaneity and freedom on the part of the performer. How did he deal with Messiaen’s music in the role of recording producer? We exchanged a lot about the choice of registrations, remaining closer to the spirit than to the letter, which suited both his personality and mine. In a way, his rolewas to transportmy ears down into the nave . . . It was a very pleasant experience.We worked in total harmony. Would you have made this recording if André Isoir hadn’t brought it about? Maybe . . . In the contemporary landscape, Messiaen’s works are among those that touch me the most.
