In 1972, the musical world was still reeling from the impact: the significance of Louis Thiry’s recording of the complete organ works of Olivier Messiaen (complete at that time, of course, since Messiaen subsequently wrote two more cycles for organ, the Méditations sur le Mystère de la Sainte Trinité , composed in 1969, but only premiered by the composer in March 1972 and published in 1973, and the Livre du Saint Sacrement , dating from 1984) did not escape anyone, and the set was immediately seen as indispensable. The Calliope label, then engaged in an Anthology of French organ music, here realised with visionary brio the last part of the series, a production which remains one of the summits of the art of recording in the twentieth century. 50 MESSIAEN_THE ORGAN WORKS
