Do you think that mixed programmes like this Liszt/Pärt disc can help to win over new audiences? I always hope to reach several publics and break down barriers. That’s the case, of course, withmy collaborations with electronic musicians. I’malso keen to perform at festivals that combine genres, to play for children and disadvantaged audiences or in places that are unaccustomed to classical music, and I work with visual elements and dance. However, I must stress that this is anything but a ‘marketing strategy’! It’s just the way I am. As I often say, I have a career that is a faithful reflection of my personality, and these different directions give a real meaning to my life as a musician. I’m curious by nature and I have multiple interests. I soon realised that it was much more enriching for me to invent my musical life than to follow the beaten track. I try to stay in tune with my nature, and I hope to go even further along that path. What will be the next stage on this journey? I’ve just recorded an album entirely devoted to post-minimalist music. I also continue to play on period pianos, I regularly appear in chamber music, I’m developing newprojects with electronic or oriental dancers andmusicians, and I’m going to carry on exploring the mainstream piano repertory.
