61 RAPHAËL JOUAN ∙ ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE METZ GRAND EST ∙ DAVID REILAND Founded in 1976, the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est was awarded the label of “national orchestra in the regions” in 2002 by the French Ministry of Culture. Since its creation, a number of music directors have succeeded one another up to the present incumbent, David Reiland: Michel Tabachnik, Emmanuel Krivine, Jacques Houtmann, Jacques Lacombe and Jacques Mercier, as well as guest conductors, among them Michel Plasson, Bertrand de Billy, Lionel Bringuier, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Nabil Shehata, and Adrian Prabava. With its 72 musicians, it gives more than 90 concerts and performances each year. In Metz, it is in permanent residence at the Arsenal Jean-Marie Rausch (at the heart of the Cité Musicale -Metz) and also performs in the productions of the Opéra-Théâtre de l’Eurométropole de Metz. Its mission extends across the Grand Est region, throughout France, and abroad. Artistic and cultural education is at the heart of the orchestra’s priorities. It carries out numerous outreach initiatives within the Eurométropole de Metz and across the region, aimed at schoolchildren, families, and those audiences furthest removed from music. It also heads up the Démos Metz Moselle Project, with two orchestras involving nearly two hundred children. The Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est is administered and financially supported by a joint syndicate of regional authorities bringing together the City of Metz, the Grand Est region, and Metz Métropole. The State (DRAC Grand Est), also contributes to its funding.
