49 RAPHAËL JOUAN ∙ ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE METZ GRAND EST ∙ DAVID REILAND Born in 1993, cellist Raphaël Jouan has distinguished himself through his eclecticism and curiosity. With equal joy and passion, he continues to explore the worlds of chamber music, the key concertos for his instrument, and improvisation, appearing both on the most prestigious stages and festivals as well as in intimate or uncommon settings, for example, jazz clubs. He has had the opportunity of performing in venues such as La Philharmonie de Paris, Le Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, L'Arsenal de Metz, and London's Wigmore Hall; on the airwaves of France Musique, and on Arte Concert, as well as Medici.tv; as well as at numerous festivals in France and abroad. He is now artist in residence at the Cité musicale-Metz, a fertile collaboration that showcases his musical qualities. A passionate defender of chamber music, an essential part of his artistic life, he founded the Trio Hélios in 2014. Raphaël studied at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional Gabriel Pierné - Eurométropole de Metz with Jean Adolphe, then at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Boulogne-Billancourt (with Xavier Gagnepain). He went on to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the classes of Michel Strauss and Guillaume Paoletti. During the 2017/2018 season, he was selected for Gautier Capuçon’s Classe d’Excellence at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. He then continued his training at the Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin, UdK) with Danjulo Ishizaka. For this album, Raphaël plays on an exceptional cello by Matteo Goffriller (Venice, 1700–1710), which once belonged to Antônio Meneses, and a Lamy Fils bow (1930), generously placed at his disposal by the company CANIMEX INC., of Drummondville (Quebec) Canada.
