16 DVOŘÁK | CELLO CONCERTO Why did you choose Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104 (B. 191)? It came about quite naturally since this work has, in my view, a truly chamber-like dimension. Having developed within the field of chamber music, I was eager to rediscover similar sensations in a concerto. And the notion of exchange seems to me essential here. Through a rich and colourful orchestration, giving particular prominence to the winds, Dvořák has entrusted the orchestra with a role far exceeding that of mere accompaniment. The finale is even akin to a symphonie concertante, so developed are the dialogues with the different sections. And to share such moments with my own parents was an immense source of joy.
