15 RAPHAËL JOUAN ∙ ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE METZ GRAND EST ∙ DAVID REILAND Outside of those working sessions, how did you prepare for this recording that represents an important turning point in your career? In order to free myself from all the pressure, I was coached for several months by Marc Papillon, who has the particular distinction of being at one and the same time a physiotherapist, a specialist in performing arts medicine, and in cognitive and behavioural therapy. He had already given me his advice when I was taking part in international competitions. His treatments, together with the discussions we shared and the run-through sessions of the concerto at his side, contributed to optimising my physical and mental capacities. And this was fundamental in my approach. For although I did indeed feel a certain stage fright when I found myself facing the orchestra for the first time, this coaching helped me to overcome the doubts that assailed me and not to let myself be tortured by the obsession with perfection but, on the contrary, to feel a true freedom and to succeed in letting go.
